86th Descent of the Sella
Around 1,300 paddlers took part in a record-breaking edition with competitors from 25 countries, coinciding with the dates of the Paris Olympics and featuring renowned singer Víctor Manuel as the event’s herald.
French duo Quentin Urban and Jeremy Candy claimed their third consecutive victory with a spectacular final sprint against Walter Bouzán and Adrián Martín, who had led a tight group of up to ten boats heading into the final stretch.
As many as eight boats sprinted side by side in the last meters, with Bouzán and Martín setting the pace, flanked by Portugal’s Ramalho and Faria. But on the right side, the French team of Candy and Urban devoured the final meters, edging out their rivals by a fraction and raising their arms in triumph beneath Ribadesella’s bridge—securing their third Sella Descent title.
In K1, local paddler Javier Sánchez from Cangas de Onís took the win.
