📝 Section Description:

The Ribadesella Estuary, located between kilometers 16 and 20 of the Sella River, marks the river’s natural end, where its fresh waters mix with the salty waters of the Cantabrian Sea.

This area is a valuable estuarine ecosystem where you can observe aquatic birds, marshes, and various fish species that thrive in brackish waters. It’s common to see herons, cormorants, and ducks, especially during the quiet hours of the tide.

During high tide, you can enjoy calm paddling trips by kayak or SUP, although this stretch is not part of the usual canoe descent of the Sella and is more associated with leisure boating or private maritime excursions.

The estuary is also a popular spot for sport fishing, particularly along the right bank next to Ribadesella’s seafront promenade.

At the end of the estuary, you’ll find Ribadesella’s main bridge and Santa Marina beach, visible from the river’s final navigable meters.
