The Cares Route is one of the most spectacular hiking trails in Spain, and without a doubt the most famous in the Picos de Europa.
With a length of 12 kilometers between the villages of Caín (León) and Poncebos (Asturias), the route runs through the impressive Cares River Gorge, also known as the Divine Gorge.
Carved into the rock, the path crosses caves, hanging bridges, and trails with dizzying views that make it an unforgettable experience. It takes about 4 hours to complete one way, and around 8 hours for the round trip. Along the way, you’ll be treated to unique views of the Asturian gorges and mountains.
🔹 Where to Start the Cares Route?
You can start the hike from either end:
- From Poncebos (Asturias): the first 2 km are uphill and a bit demanding.
- From Caín (León): the start is downhill and gentler.
From there, the trail is mostly flat and well-marked.
