Piloña–Sella Descent: Canoeing Race between Soto de Dueñas and Arriondas
The Piloña–Sella Descent is a canoeing race held between the towns of Soto de Dueñas and Arriondas, in eastern Asturias. Unlike the International Descent of the Sella, which runs from Arriondas to Ribadesella, this competition follows the Piloña and Sella rivers, with the former being a tributary of the latter.
It is an event with 44 years of history, firmly established as one of the most traditional races in the Asturian river descent calendar.
Course Features
The route of the Piloña–Sella Descent combines stretches of calm water with technical sections that demand skill and experience. One of the most challenging and iconic points along the course is the Soto de Dueñas dam, which poses a true test for all participants and serves as one of the main attractions for canoeing enthusiasts.
