International Descent of the Sella 2012

76th Descent of the Sella

Walter Bouzán made history by becoming the first paddler from Ribadesella to achieve 3 consecutive victories in the International Descent of the Sella, cementing his legendary status in the race.

The 76th Edition of the International Descent of the Sella crowned the K2 pair of Walter Bouzán (Asturias) and Álvaro Fernández Fiuza (Galicia) with a time of 1:09:16. Despite a tough start, they recovered and took the lead halfway through the course.

It was a fiercely contested race, with strong competition from other K2 teams like Emilio Merchán Alonso and Iván Alonso Lage, who capsized just meters from the finish and secured 3rd place. Second place went to Cantabrian legend Julio Martínez (11-time Sella champion) and Javier Hernanz, with a time of 1:09:24.

In K1, the victory went to José Julián Becerro, clocking 1:15:22, followed by Federico Vega Suárez (Kiko Vega) with 1:15:28 and Luis Amado Pérez Blanco in third.

🌊 The International Descent of the Sella 2012 once again proved why it’s Asturias’ greatest canoeing festival, delivering drama, epic comebacks, and the best sporting atmosphere of the summer.
