75th Sella Descent
This year’s International Sella Descent was marked by emotion and tribute. Just days before the race, Emilio Llamedo Olivera, who had led the event for 30 years and was a key figure for the Sella, sadly passed away.
Before the reading of the opening address, an emotional homage was held in Arriondas: his son Emilio scattered his ashes in the Sella River while the traditional floral necklace and montera picona were dropped from the bridge—powerful symbols of selleru respect and remembrance.
In the competition, Walter Bouzán and Álvaro Fernández Fiuza (FEVE–Oviedo Kayak) secured their second consecutive victory in K-2, beating Julio Martínez and José Julián Becerro (Club Deportivo Bañezano).
In the K-1 category, Manuel Busto, eleven-time world marathon champion and Piragüismo Astur legend, led from the start to claim victory ahead of Kiko Vega and Óscar Hernández (Sociedad Cultural de Ribadesella).
