28th Descent of the Sella
The Sella was unstoppable in 1965, cementing its place as the premier summer sporting and festive event in Asturias. An estimated 100,000 people followed the race and joined the celebrations before and after, setting a record that confirmed its growing popularity.
On the sporting side, the podium showcased a strong international presence with total foreign dominance. Victory went to the Danish pair Lund Hansen and Anderssen, finishing in 1 hour, 29 minutes, and 12 seconds. Just 2 seconds behind were the Swedes Lundeloff and Heurlin, underscoring the race’s intense competitiveness. The third spot also went to Sweden, with Lingfors and Larsson completing the podium.
It was an exciting and fiercely contested edition that reinforced the Sella’s international prestige and its reputation as one of the most spectacular flatwater marathon canoe races.
