🔹 Useful Technical Information:
📍 Distance from Arriondas: 15.2 km (Long Route)
🎣 Fishing Zone: Salmon fishing reserve (coto salmonero) (from 200 m upstream of the Cuevas bridge to the Santianes dam)
🌊 Section Type: Remnants of old river infrastructure, concentrated flow
✅ Ideal for: Caution when navigating and as a reference point for anglers
📝 Section Description:
At km 15.2 of the Sella River you’ll find the remains of the old dam, a historic structure now out of use but still marking a change in the river’s behavior.
Although the main structure was dismantled, there are still visible remnants on the riverbed that slightly concentrate the flow, creating small water movements that can alter a canoe’s direction, especially when water levels are low.
This section is not particularly dangerous, but it’s advisable to maintain a steady course and exercise some caution to avoid being deflected by the current or capsizing.
It forms part of a traditional salmon fishing reserve (coto salmonero) and is considered a strategic area by anglers, as the change in riverbed level and oxygenated water encourage the passage of trout and salmon.
