71st Descent of the Sella
The paddlers from Palencia, Jorge Alonso and Santi Guerrero, claimed victory in K2 at the 2007 International Descent of the Sella, winning an exciting sprint finish against Julio Martínez and José Julián Becerro. Once overtaken, the latter settled for second place behind Eduardo González and Miguel Fernández Castañón.
With this win, Alonso and Guerrero finally achieved the long-awaited triumph they had been chasing for years, having previously secured multiple second and third places. Their victory broke the dominance of Julio Martínez, who held 9 Sella titles.
In K1, Kiko Vega secured his third victory in the race, followed by Álvaro Fernández Fiuza in second and Rafael Carril in third.
The 2007 edition featured an impressive turnout, with 913 paddlers from 20 countries in 641 boats, reinforcing the Sella as one of the world’s premier canoeing competitions.
