57th Sella Descent
In the 57th International Descent of the Sella (1993), 1,080 paddlers from 20 countries competed, highlighting its global prestige. The Portuguese duo arrived as foreign favorites, but the experience and dominance of the Asturian pair Tom and Monotos prevailed brilliantly. The race came down to an incredibly tight sprint finish, with the Asturians winning by just 3 seconds over the Portuguese, and the top three boats crossing within 23 seconds. In K1, Ramón Cerra from Los Rápidos de Arriondas claimed victory, adding another triumph to Asturias’ storied record in the Sella.
The 1993 Sella Descent showcased its competitive spirit and festive atmosphere, drawing thousands of fans along the banks from Arriondas to Ribadesella to cheer on the world’s best river paddlers.
