55th Descent of the Sella
Twenty-four countries and 1,784 paddlers took part. Once again, South Africans competed under another nationality—this time, Switzerland. The Spanish pairs Tom and Falu and Llerandi and Quevedo faced tough foreign competition, including the “Swiss” team of Marx Perrow and Neil Evans and the Germans Skibbe and Pfitzenreuter.
The Swiss pair won with a time of 1 h 13 m 34 s. Another Swiss team finished second. The third-place result changed after a protest: Tom and Falu were initially announced as third, but after the appeal, Vicente Llerandi and Rafael Quevedo were awarded the spot.
In K1, Juan Ramón González “Monotos”, a Sella legend, claimed his second victory.
