19th Descent of the Sella
In 1955, 107 paddlers took part, with Cuba registering a team for the first time, adding to the event’s growing international character.
The festive atmosphere around the race grew even more important that year, with large crowds attending and folk groups arriving from many regions, enriching the Sella’s unique cultural celebration.
In sporting results, the winners were the team from Gijón, José Montes and Ramón Peláez, finishing in 1 hour, 44 minutes, and 26 seconds. Just 6 seconds behind came the local pair Antonio and Maximino Cuesta from Ribadesella in a very close finish. Third place went to the Belgian team Van der Moore and Broecmeyer, underscoring the race’s international appeal.
