From Ribadesella, the Entaína Ribeseya Cultural Association brings color, tradition, and joy to the Parade of the International Sella Descent, reaffirming the identity of Ribadesella in this internationally renowned festival.
Entaína was founded with the goal of preserving, recovering, and promoting local heritage in all its dimensions: cultural, festive, linguistic, and social. It is much more than just a folklore group; it is a driver of community life that strengthens the bond of the people of Ribadesella with their roots.
Throughout the year, Entaína organizes traditional and popular activities that keep Asturian culture alive in Ribadesella. Highlights include the Amaguestu, which celebrates the chestnut harvest and sweet cider; the Folixa de la Sidre, which showcases Asturias’ most emblematic drink; the Enrramau de Fuentes, an ancient festive tradition with music, green branches, and popular decoration; and the Concursu de Enrramau in local villages, which rewards creativity and respect for traditional forms. Additionally, the association is actively involved in the Fiestas de Guía, one of the most important celebrations on the local calendar.
When the eagerly awaited Piraguas weekend arrives, Entaína becomes one of the Sella’s greatest sources of festivity, encouraging all Ribadesella locals to decorate their balconies, windows, and shops with the colors of the celebration, dress in traditional attire, and take part actively in the departure parade from Les Arriondes.
To make participation easier, more than 100 Ribadesella members travel each year on buses provided by Entaína to Arriondas. There, they enjoy the parade and the lively atmosphere before the race, then return to Ribadesella to welcome the paddlers at the finish line—thus closing the festive circle that unites both banks of the Sella in a shared spirit of hospitality, pride, and Asturian tradition.
