21st Descent of the Sella
Another important addition in 1957 was the creation of a stone monolith to honor and remember the winners of the race, reinforcing the event’s historic and symbolic character.
That year, Mexico joined the roster of participating countries, highlighting the Sella’s expanding international reach. A new participation record was also set with 116 paddlers, proving its status as an essential flatwater marathon event.
In sporting results, Belgium claimed victory once again with Franck and De Waele, matching the previous year’s time of 1 hour, 35 minutes, and 40 seconds, confirming their dominance and consistency on the podium.
