85th Descent of the Sella
Around 1,100 paddlers from 18 countries took part. This year, the opening speech was delivered by Olympic medalist Lydia Marin, while the Asturias anthem was performed by Vicente Dias “El Presi”.
The French duo Quentin Urban and Jeremy Candy claimed victory for the second consecutive year in an edition made more challenging by low river flow and the ebb tide.
Although they struggled at the start in Arriondas, dropping behind the lead group, they gradually closed the gap and caught up with Asturians Miguel Llorens and Alberto Plaza, who had led almost the entire race.
In K-1, the win went to Walter Bouzán of Ribadesella, marking his eleventh victory in the Sella.
