7th Descent of the Sella
In 1944, the event’s date was officially set for August 11, and the race became a national competition, welcoming clubs from across Spain. The start time was fixed at 10 a.m. in Arriondas, with the program promising an “asalto” (folk dance) followed by a street party at the Casino in Ribadesella.
Three official registration points were established:
-
The Tennis Club in Infiesto
-
A location in Ribadesella
-
The Grupo Cultural Covadonga in Gijón
For the first time, a special bus service ran from Gijón to Arriondas, departing at 7:30 a.m. from the Club Cultural Covadonga, making it easier for participants and spectators to attend.
In sporting results, the winners that year were Armando Menéndez and Manuel González from Gijón, strengthening the city’s presence in the Sella’s history.
