22nd Descent of the Sella
In 1958, 74 canoes took part, confirming the Sella’s identity as a true folkloric-sporting festival that blended competition with the vibrant celebrations surrounding it—a defining feature of the Asturian event.
That year saw Sweden and Luxembourg join the race for the first time, reflecting the growing international prestige.
In sporting results, the Swedish pair Linpqwist and Lundstron claimed victory with a new record time of 1 hour, 31 minutes, and 5 seconds. Luxembourg’s André Conrardy won in the K1 category, adding even more international flavor to the podium.
Technical improvements in canoe design also emerged, especially in manufacturing methods. The Cuesta brothers, whose workshop was established near Llovio, made significant contributions to this development.
