70th Descent of the Sella
Participation included 876 paddlers from eighteen countries in 617 boats. On the competitive front, Jorge Alonso and Santiago Guerrero (Spain’s National Team) took the lead along with Germans Max Hoff and Stephan Stiefenhofer, who couldn’t maintain the pace set by the reigning Spanish marathon champions.
With five kilometers remaining before reaching Ribadesella, Martínez and Merchán had already caught the wake of Alonso and Guerrero’s boat thanks to an impressive comeback that once again showcased their deep knowledge of the Sella. They won the race, marking four consecutive victories for this unbeatable duo.
In K1, Manuel Busto set a new record and claimed victory after being unable to compete in K2 due to his partner’s physical issues.
