International Sella River Descent

Selleros (Arriondas)

Parade of the “Selleros” in the International Descent of the Sella

Selleros is the group representing Arriondas that brings life to the International Sella Descent every year.

Born from a collective desire to reconnect Arriondas with its “sellero” spirit, the Selleros collective was officially registered as an association in 2014. In just one year, they attracted around 600 members, showing the strong sense of pride locals have for their most universal festival.

In addition to staging the “Entierru del salmón”, which marks the end of the local carnival (antroxu), they also introduced an emotional new event to the Sella Descent program: L’Allume.

Around midnight on the Friday of the Sella Festival, locals parade to the river with floating candles they have personally decorated in memory of Selleros who have passed away. After the official address, the candles drift downstream, illuminating the night and the water.

The local residents, guided by local artist Agustín Aramburu, decorated the wall at the foot of the Sella River that welcomes visitors to the village. An event which, like the mural itself, is destined to become part of Arriondas’ history.
